StarOffice 6.0 and Odin

Sun Microsystems has released a beta version of the upcoming StarOffice 6.0.

There is not an OS/2 version but I was able to install it using Odin under Warp 4.5 MCP. There seems to be much improvement over 5.2 specifically for me is the elimination of the integrated desktop and also it has support for XML file formats. FYI the beta expires March 2002.

Mine/2 and Birdman, OS/2 Games released as OpenSource

The Author of Mine/2 and Birdman, Michael Bruestle, had released his game as Open Source.

Mine/2 version version 1.0 (December 23, 1997) for OS/2 and its source code is now available for download at hobbes: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=mine2.

Beta test of HTML-Format

A new beta release of the powerful HTML editor fully written in Java - 'CD's HTML Format' - is available for download.

In this beta you can use English and German language which depences on the language of the operating system. Also a new plug in interface is available for Java developer who are interested in adding functionality in the editor! A sample for using the interface is stored in the archive. An SFV CRC checker for OS/2 PM

Used for checking of files, if they are transfered correctly or not. Mostly for RAR files, since RAR does not build checksums over each file SFV files are very common by downloading VCD's from FTP servers.

DFSee update (4.04)

DFSee is an FDISK-like display, analysis and recovery tool with powerfull FIX commands and UNDELETE for HPFS and NTFS.

DFSee is a command-line and text-only utility (no GUI). This allows usage from simple boot-diskettes for recovery. The package includes an OS/2, Win-NT and DOS version.

DFSee can be downloaded from the web-site, but after evaluation, and for all real use you are required to get a registration. It can be purchased from the Mensys online shop for about US $18.

Version 4.04 updates and fixes:

• Fixed trap and added msg for HPFS 'CHECK' bad codepage sectors
• Added some important sectors to DFSUNFD logfile
• Added 'last accessed sector' to some critical error messages
• Reduced DFSMDOS.EXE memory usage by 60Kb (compared to 4.03)

Registering DFSee will give you the right to use all 4.xx versions and get support plus a reasonable amount of assistance by email.
